LET US GO ON UNTO PERFECTION

by Chris McCann

Today with this study, we are going to get into some information from the Bible that shows that not only did God have a plan to reveal end-time events, such as the timeline of history or the end of the Church Age or information about the Great Tribulation, but also included in this was other information that is very much a part of the whole Gospel message.

We will go into a passage in the book of Hebrews to look at this, but first, let us be reminded that God did have a plan to seal up the Scriptures.  For instance, if we go to Daniel 12:4, it says:

But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.

And a little further down, we read in Daniel 12:8-10:

And I heard, but I understood not: then said I, O my Lord, what shall be the end of these things?  And he said, Go thy way, Daniel: for the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end.  Many shall be purified, and made white, and tried; but the wicked shall do wickedly: and none of the wicked shall understand; but the wise shall understand.

This fits along with the verse in Ecclesiastes that says, “A wise man’s heart discerneth both time and judgment.”  “Time and judgment” is found in Ecclesiasts 8:5-6, and it really shows that it is God’s plan to reveal, at the end, things that have been sealed up, things that have been closed.

If you remember how we understood this and what this means, God gives us a Biblical picture of what He means by this because the same word for “shut up” (or “closed up”) is found in Genesis 26.  In Genesis 26, the Philistines were arguing with Isaac and Isaac’s servants.  They did not want Isaac to have some wells.  We read in Genesis 26:15:

For all the wells which his father’s servants had digged in the days of Abraham his father, the Philistines had stopped them…

“Stopped” is that same word for “closed” in Daniel 12:9.  Genesis 26:15 continues:

…and filled them with earth.

We are not going to work on getting any kind of spiritual picture from this.  We are just going to get an illustration of what God means when He says, “shut up the Words,” “seal the Book,” “close” the Words, “to the time of the end.”

Water wells are a good example because over in Isaiah 12, God speaks about a well, where we read in Isaiah 12:3:

Therefore with joy shall ye draw water out of the wells of salvation.

This is a very good picture, because we know that the Gospel is typified by water, and God refers to the “wells of salvation.”

Here are these Philistines and they are contrary to God and to God’s people.  They do not want to help them in the least bit.  Abraham had some wells to provide water for his servants and his cattle, and the Philistines filled them up.  They had their men out there and they shoveled dirt into the wells, who knows how many feet deep—it could have been five, six, seven, eight feet deep.

We do not know how many feet deep but we do know that after they filled them up, if anyone came along and saw a well off in a distance in this land that is kind of dry, they would have approached the well expecting water, searching for water.  They could have tasted it in their mouth, but when they got there and they lowered the bucket and they pulled the bucket up, it was full of dirt.  It was full of dirt.  Maybe even someone jumped down and dug a foot or two—more dirt.  They would not have been able to get any water out of it because it was a dry well, so they would have continued on.

This is the idea behind sealing up the Word “till the time of the end.”  The picture is that the Gospel water, the truth of the Word of God, was closed up by God.  You could go to the passages, just like people could go to these wells.  You could go to Ezekiel, you could go to Daniel, or you could go to Matthew 24, throughout the history of the Church Age, and you could dig, searching for truth.  You could try to uncover what God was saying in these passages, but you were not going to find anything because God had closed them up.

If God shuts a door, no man can open it.  On the other hand, when God opens a door, no man can shut it.  And if God’s plan is to hide truth, it does not matter how brilliant you are.  You could be Calvin or you could be Luther or you could be Knox or you could be Jonathan Edwards or you could be the great preacher Spurgeon or Robert Hawker—any of these faithful men of the past.  They came to the Scriptures with minds that were much more finely tuned than our minds today.  We have so many distractions in this modern technological world to where we are constantly being distracted.  We do not know what it is like to be diligent in Bible study, to tell you the truth.  And if we did not have all of these Bible helps, can you imagine the state that we would be in?

But these men of old grew up at a young age going to college and learning the Hebrew and the Greek and the Latin and all of these other languages.  They went into the Bible without concordances and without all the helps that we have.  For example, we have “Word Search”; click, and there it is!  They had to study and then, by memory, compare one verse here with another verse there.  They did not have all of the words organized for them according to every place they are used in the Bible.  They put in great amounts of time and prayer.

I do not know if all of them were, but many of them were true children of God.  God had saved them and put His Spirit within them.  And in the Bible, John 16 was there, just like it is for us today, and the Bible refers to this a couple of times.  In John 16:12-13, we read:

I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now.  Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth…

The question is, of course, when is “the Spirit of Truth” come?  When would this be?  Of course, the Holy Spirit enters into every believer.  But, you see, it says that “He will guide you into all truth”—all truth.  The men of the past were not guided into “all truth.”  They learned some truths.

I think that this verse in John relates to Habakkuk.  We read in Habakkuk 2:2-3:

And the LORD answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it.  For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.

You see, the “vision,” which is a reference to the Word of God, will “speak.”  “At the end,” it is going to “speak.”

This also goes along with Mark 13:11, and we realize that Mark 13 is an end-time chapter.  It says in Mark 13:11:

But when they shall lead you, and deliver you up, take no thought beforehand what ye shall speak, neither do ye premeditate…

Do you realize how unusual it is for God to tell us to not “premeditate”?  Does He not tell us to “meditate upon these things”?  Does He not say, “study to show thyself approved unto God,” and “be ready always to give an answer”?

I will finish reading Mark 13:11, but in Luke 21:14-15, He says:

Settle it therefore in your hearts, not to meditate before what ye shall answer: for I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which all your adversaries shall not be able to gainsay nor resist.

Do not think about it beforehand.  Do not try to understand the coming of Christ, whether it is pre-mil, post-mil, or a-mil.

Why do we have all of these theological doctrines of the end-times?  We have them because people did not listen to God.  Actually, these verses were sealed up along with them, so they did not realize that these things were not for them and that they could never come to truth on the actual outline or the actual way that the Lord Jesus would come and the actual truths that are involved with His coming.  They could never learn them because God said “not to meditate before what ye shall answer.”

Again, Mark 13:11:

…take no thought beforehand what ye shall speak, neither do ye premeditate: but whatsoever shall be given you in that hour…

Remember that Revelation 18 speaks of the “hour” of judgment, which is the “hour” of the Great Tribulation or the “hour” of the whole judgment at the end of the world.

Mark 13:11 continues:

…that speak ye: for it is not ye that speak, but the Holy Ghost.

Again, the Holy Ghost is going to “speak” in that “hour.”  “He will guide you into all truth.”   We just read this in John 16.  It told us that the Holy Ghost shall “speak.”  He is not going to speak audibly.  We are not going to hear a thunder strike from Heaven.  We are not going to have any kind of additional revelation, but “comparing spiritual things with spiritual,” 1 Corinthians 2 tells us that “the Holy Ghost teacheth.”  He “speaks.”

Habakkuk 2 told us, “but at the end it shall speak,” so when we get to the time of the end, the Holy Ghost is going to “speak.”  What is He going to “speak?”  He is going to “speak” the Words that have been sealed up, the Words that have been “closed up and sealed till the time of the end.”  He is going to reveal them.

The illustration is that during the whole history of the world, actually, but especially during the Church Age, these things were sealed up like dirt in a well.  Now, here we come in the year…I am not going to date it…but here we come after the millennium and we are searching the Bible during this last part of the Great Tribulation.  We are searching the Scriptures.  We have our shovel out.  We are digging.  We are looking for water.  Where is the truth?

Yet God makes it happen.  God opens the well.  It is as simple as that.  God reveals the truth.  The water starts coming up.  When you dig in the well and you are thirsty and then you see a little water, it encourages you to dig more, to dig further down until you have a full well, “the wells of salvation,” the “well” of Gospel truth.

So we learn things, such as what is coming forth from the book of Jeremiah regarding the end of the Church Age, that the Holy Spirit has left the congregations and that God is finished using the church of our day.  Their testimony is done and now He is using individuals to bring forth the Gospel to the world.  All of this has come from the Bible, and we understand it not because we follow a man.  No.  Does the Bible say, “In that hour, Mr. Camping will speak?”  What does it say?  “In that hour…the Holy Ghost” will “speak.”  The Holy Ghost will declare these things.

If anyone has a problem with the whole end of the Church Age teaching or with some other things that are coming forth out of the Bible, their problem is not with Family Radio.  Their problem is not with an individual.  Their problem is directly with God.  It is with God.

God has taken full and personal responsibility for what is being taught “at the end.”  “The Holy Ghost teacheth.”  “The Spirit of truth…will guide you into all truth.”  He is going to reveal these things that have been sealed up.  And if someone does not like them, they do not like the true Gospel of the Bible.  It is as simple as that.  They do not like the truth of the Word of God.  This is God’s program.  It is His plan to have closed them up and it is His plan to open up the well or to reveal these things in our day.

Many of us who have left the church realize that the Church Age is over.  We can see it from the Bible.  We realize that there is a timeline of history and that 2011 looks like the end of the world.  We realize these things, but come on…come on!  Lately, are you saying that we were all wrong about the resurrection?  Are you saying that we were all wrong about eternal judgment?  Are you saying that we did not understand Hell?  Are you saying that we did not understand these simple basic truths?

The problem is that, first of all, they are not simple basic truths.  We thought that these were the simple basic things; but, actually, they are not.  The simple basic truth, or the “first principles” of the Word of God, is the Lord Jesus Christ—His Person, His work—that Jesus is the Saviour, that He is Eternal God Himself in the flesh, that He entered into the world to save a people for Himself, that He is the Word in the flesh.

All of these are the foundational truths of the Bible.  But eternal judgment, the resurrection of the dead, baptism, faith, repentance, all of these things are not the “milk of the Word.”  They are the “strong meat.”  They are the “strong meat.”  These are the things that all of the churches get confused on, are they not?

If this is so simple, why are there all kinds of salvation plans?  Why are there all types of ideas about baptism and the modes of baptism—where some sprinkle and some dip and some immerse—yet everyone thinks that they have the truth?  Why is this so, if it is so simple?

And what about repentance, if this is such a simple doctrine?  Well, it is not a simple doctrine.  The Bible commands us to repent, but when we really search the Bible, we find that no one can repent of their own heart.  Who can repent of their own heart?  No.  There is more information.

What about faith, the faith of the Lord Jesus?  This is simple—just believe!  Accept Christ!  No, we see how complicated this gets.  Everyone develops their own idea of how to get someone saved, and in actuality, they can not.

Let us turn to Hebrews 5.  I think if we look at this long enough, we might begin to understand what God is saying here.  The discussion in Hebrews 5 has led to Melchisedec, but He says in Hebrews 5:11:

Of whom we have many things to say, and hard to be uttered, seeing ye are dull of hearing.

This word “dull” here is not the same word that is found in a few other places, like in Matthew 13 where it is speaking about “their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed.”  The word for “dull” here is a different Greek word, but this word for “dull” in Hebrews 5 is only found twice.  The second time is in Hebrews 6:12, which says:

That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises.

The word for “dull” is the same word as for “slothful.”  So this is one reason, actually, that we can be a little “dull of hearing.”  This is because we are lazy…and I am including myself.  When it comes to spiritual things, we are not checking them out as thoroughly as we should.

So God is saying in Hebrews 5:11 that we are “dull of hearing,” and then we read in Hebrews 5:12:

For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat.

This is the problem that I think many of us are experiencing, and I have felt the same way.

When I heard about this teaching on annihilation rather than eternal damnation, at first I thought, “No way!”  I thought that the Bible had clearly laid this out.  But, of course, I had never checked into it.  I had never seriously examined the idea of annihilation.  I had never looked at the verses like “Man…is like the beasts that perish,” and so forth.  This was my first reaction.

After hearing more about it, I thought, “I do not know anything.  If I do not know this, I do not know anything.  This is a basic fundamental truth of the Bible, and I am ignorant of this?  I had this wrong?  I do not understand this simple teaching?”  And I am sure that a lot of people felt this way.  So I wondered, “Should I ever teach?  Should I ever teach if I did not understand this?”

It is a little comforting to realize that no one in the past understood this either, and I mean no one—no one!  As we search history, you have some groups like the Jehovah’s Witnesses that came up with the teaching of annihilation.  And, actually, this does not make it any easier to accept.  It becomes even more difficult, because they are “another gospel.”  They are a false gospel, so we do not want to say that we believe anything that they believe.  However, they actually, probably, have other doctrines, too, that we believe.  It is just that this one makes us feel a little uneasy about it.

So as we think about these things and we think that we do not know anything, we realize that this is the perfect place for us to be, and this is really what I have come to realize.  This is the perfect place for us to be.  We should have been here all along, because under these circumstances, we now go to God and plead, “God, please teach me.  Help me.  I may have said this before, but I really feel it now.  I do not know a thing.  I do not know anything.”  And this could be one of the reasons why God has hidden these things until now, just to humble us a little bit more and to test us a little bit more.  But these things that we thought were the “first principles,” they are not.

For the word “first,” I wrote down some verses where this is used.  If we go to Matthew 19:4:

And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female,

“Beginning” is the same Greek word for “first.”  Also, Matthew 19:8:

He saith unto them, Moses because of the hardness of your hearts suffered you to put away your wives: but from the beginning it was not so.

It is most often translated as “beginning.”  Like, John 1:1:

In the beginning was the Word…

That is this Greek word, “arche:G746,” and it means “first,” “foremost,” “the beginning.”  This is found in many places.  2 Peter 3:4:

…from the beginning of the creation.

It is used in Revelation 22:13, referring to Jesus:

I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last.

So Jesus is the beginning, and we are going to see that the “first principles,” the “beginning” principles of the Word of God, are the Lord Jesus Christ.  He, Himself, His person, His nature, His work—He is the “first principles.”

Some have said (and I think that they have said this to try to prove that this idea of annihilation can not be true), “If we can not know about Hell and the true teaching of Hell, then what is next?  What could be next?  Are we going to say that Jesus is not God or that Jesus is not part of the Trinity?  Everything is up in the air, so are we going to search the Scriptures diligently to confirm these ideas, too?”

But the “first principles” are the Lord Jesus Christ.  They are the basic truths.  He is the “foundation” that we read about in 1 Corinthians 3.  Upon Him, everything is built—the Kingdom of God and also the knowledge of the Word of God.  He is the basic truth of the Bible.

The word “principles” is the word that is translated in Galatians 4:3 as “elements”:

…the elements of the world:

Or in Colossians 2:8:

rudiments of the world…

It is the same word.  Also, in 2 Peter 3:10,12, where it says in both verses:

…the elements shall melt with fervent heat…

The “elements” of the world are the basics of the building-blocks of the world.  It is the foundation, in other words, of the world.  This is what the “elements” are that are going to “melt.”

So, again, the “first elements” or the “beginning elements” of the “oracles of God” (and “oracles” is a word that really means “the Word of God”), what are they?

Let us just read from verse 13.  We read in Hebrews 5:13-6:1:

For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe.  But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.  Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ…

Do you see this?  These are the “first principles.”  This is the “beginning element.”  “Leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ”; He is that “foundation.”  He is the One who we must understand.

The Jehovah’s Witnesses do not understand that He is Eternal God.  They have left “the principles.”  Mormons also do not understand this.  Many other false gospels and religions do not understand the Person of the Lord Jesus Christ.  They leave the “first principles” and they get into trouble; they come to error.

Hebrews 6:1-2:

Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection…

Lord willing, next week, we will take a look at this idea of “perfection,” or if we have any time today.

…not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God, of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment.

We have misunderstood this verse.  I know that I have.  I think that a lot of people have read this and thought that these doctrines were the first principles.

Actually, no; we are leaving them.  We are leaving them and we are going “on unto perfection.”  When we “go on unto perfection,” this is when we will learn “the deep things of God.”  We are going to learn about repentance and that it is a gift of God.  We are going to learn that we do not have the strength or the spiritual ability to sufficiently repent, in the eyes of God.  Did past generations not understand this?

Spurgeon taught a sermon entitled, “Turn or Burn.”  “Turn or Burn”; it is up to you!  “Turn or Burn”; repent, or you are going to go into Hell!  And this is the idea that many had.  They would teach repentance, yet they would fail to understand that a man is dead spiritually and that he can not respond.

We can throw away the pack of cigarettes or we can put away the beer.  We can do things like this, but where is the real problem?  The real problem is the heart.  Who can turn from their own heart?  This is where evil proceeds forth from.  We need a new heart in order to repent sufficiently, according to the Bible.  So it is really in our time that we are learning more about repentance.

How about faith toward God?  Hebrews 6:1:

…of faith toward God…

How many preachers or theologians in the past laid out the truth of what we read in Galatians 2:16:

Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ…

This is the Genitive in the Greek; it belongs to Jesus.  It is His faith that saves us.  And this truth has just come out really in the last 10-15 years, where we have gotten a good understanding about this and we know that this is good, solid truth.

By the way, the word for “strong,” as in “strong meat,” means something “sure” and “steadfast.”  We know, absolutely, that it is Christ’s faith that saves and not man’s, yet this was not known, previously, in the whole history of the New Testament Era or the Church Age.

It continues in Hebrews 6:2:

Of the doctrine of baptisms…

There is an easy one—baptisms!  Try to read up on baptisms and see if you can figure out what Biblical baptism is.  Yet we have come to understand Biblical baptism.

Remember, Mr. Camping wrote a book, “Baptism: The Washing Away of Our Sins.”  This is a great book, but you are not going to find the correct understanding of baptism anywhere in history.  What you will find is a lot of confusion about baptism.  You will not find that we were baptized in Christ, as He paid the penalty for Hell.  Will you find that as He paid the penalty of death for His people that we were baptized with His baptism?

Again, this is a new understanding of what the Bible says about baptism that has come to light in the last decade.  And this is very solid.  It is very sure.  No one questions this.  It is true.  When we search the Bible, yes, we now have a much better understanding of what God taught regarding baptism.

Next in Hebrews 6:2 is:

…laying on of hands…

I do not understand this yet.  Maybe we will come to understand this in the days that are left.  We know that it has a spiritual application, in that “laying on of hands” is bringing the Gospel to someone.  But I do not know what the deeper meaning is.  This is the only thing here that kind of stands out that we have not touched on in the last decade.

Then Hebrews 6:2 goes on to say:

…of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment.

And what has come up in the last month or two?  In the last few months, we have found that our understanding of the resurrection was not quite right.  It was not quite right.  The resurrection looks like May 21, 2011, and that will be the rapture and the resurrection of the believers, but there is still a five-month period upon earth.

We do not know exactly what happens during this five-month period for now.  We are still studying this, but it looks like “the resurrection of the just” occurs at one time and “the resurrection of damnation” at another time.  So we are learning about the “resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment.”

Immediately following what we have learned about the resurrection of the believers, now the whole idea of eternal damnation is coming up and we are discovering truths about this that we never saw before.  We are seeing information in the Bible that seems to point to annihilation, where man is destroyed completely and there is no eternal, conscious suffering in a place called “Hell.”

You see, these are the things that God has said we will move on to and “go on unto perfection.”  These are the things that we are now going to learn.

The interesting thing is that He is basically saying that we are like children.  We are like babes.  We are like those who have been upon the “milk of the Word,” and He is saying this to all of us.

Again, Hebrews 5:12:

…ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat.

We have been “such as have need of milk” and not of sure and steadfast doctrine, not of these deeper truths.

So let us just look at a couple of places.  Next week, maybe we will be able to get into a little bit more detail.  For now, let us turn to Ephesians 4:11-14:

And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; for the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ: that we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine…

You see, this is indicating that we are going to come to “a perfect man” so that we “be no more children.”

Or look at 1 Corinthians 14:20:

Brethren, be not children in understanding: howbeit in malice (in evil) be ye children, but in understanding be men.

The word for “men” here is the same word that was translated as “perfect” in Ephesians 4:13.  It is never translated as “men” except here.  “Be perfect.”  “Be not children in understanding…but in understanding be perfect.”  This is unusual, is it not?  Well, we are to “Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.”  This is what we read in the Gospel of Matthew.  This is a command of God, “Be ye therefore perfect.”  But this is speaking of understanding, of doctrine.

Look at the previous chapter, in 1 Corinthians 13.  We read in 1 Corinthians 13:8-9:

Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.  For we know in part, and we prophesy in part

What does this mean?  If we know “in part,” what does this mean?  If you have knowledge “in part,” you do not have knowledge of the whole.  This is how we have understood this, and this is correct.

In John 19, when the soldiers took Jesus’ garments, they “made four parts.”  They did not have the whole garment anymore; they each had a piece.  They had a piece, and God is saying that we have a piece of understanding.  We have some doctrine; we have part knowledge of the truth of the Bible.  Yet He is saying in 1 Corinthians 13:9-10:

For we know in part, and we prophesy in part.  But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.

Let us go back to Hebrews.  Let us look at Hebrews 5:13-14:

For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe.  But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age…

“Full age” is that word for “perfect.”  This is the Greek word that we found in other places for “perfect.”  This is the identical word.  And in Hebrews 5:14, we read:

But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age (perfect)…

And then Hebrews 6:1 tells us:

Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection…

Keep studying the Bible.  Keep studying, because “when that which is perfect is come,” the Lord Jesus, the Holy Spirit of God, is going to open up truth.  He is going to reveal truth.  He will guide us into all truth.  He is going to teach us, but this does not mean that we are going to understand every single thing in the Bible.

Let us look at it this way.  There is a container and this container represents the knowledge that God wants His people to know at some point before the end of the world.  This container was filled up to a certain point throughout most of the history of the church.  Before the end, He is going to fill us up “unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ.”  We are going to be “perfect” in the knowledge that God will allot to us, the knowledge that He wants us to know before the end of the world.

What does this mean?  It means that we can know that God is a Triune Person.  We have this knowledge.  He is three; yet One, but do we really understand this?  No.  So coming to a perfect understanding of doctrine does not mean that we can go into the depths of any one doctrine or teaching, but we can understand, basically, what He is saying; we understand that this is the truth of the Bible.

Going back to 1 Corinthians 13:9-12:

For we know in part, and we prophesy in part.  But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.  When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.  For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face…

We always thought that this was referring to Heaven, but no.  This is the time when God is opening the Scriptures and He is revealing Himself, just like we read in Exodus when God spoke to Moses, “And the LORD Spake unto Moses face to face.”

We always need to qualify statements like this, because people are quick to take a comment and apply it in a way that it was not meant.  But when God spoke to Moses, it meant that He gave him direct information. When you speak with someone face-to-face, it is a lot more likely that there is not going to be a misunderstanding.  This is true even though there could still be a misunderstanding because we are human.  Rather than sending an email or sending another form of communication, face-to-face is the best way of expressing what you want to get across to the other person.  You can see their face, and so forth, and you can communicate better in this way.

So God is just saying that He is going to reveal to us, in a very direct way, through the Bible, through the Word of God, end-time information about the end of the Church Age, the timeline of history, eternal judgment, the resurrection of the dead, the faith of Christ.  All of these things, we will understand better.

Again, 1 Corinthians 13:12:

…now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.

So this passage is telling us, along with what we read in Hebrews, that we can expect that God is going to reveal things concerning the resurrection of the dead and eternal judgment.

Having said all of this, this does not mean that everything that we are hearing now is absolute truth.  We need to search this out.  This does not mean that some of these doctrines can not be fine-tuned.  What it means is that we are, actually, right where we should be, as God is teaching these things at this time.

Let us close here, and we will pick this up again next week, Lord willing.
